Your treatment

What is Smile in a Day treatment?

Smile in a Day is a same-day dental implant procedure for single teeth or full arch resto- rations. Our experts at TDC Implant Centres transform smiles in just one appointment, often without the need for bone grafting. Let's take a closer look at the three simple stages of Smile in a Day treatment.
Book your appointment
Your free, no-obligation consultation is your opportunity to discuss your dental needs with our experienced implant dentists. We’ll get to know the issues you’re experiencing, any medical conditions we need to be aware of, and why you want to restore your smile or replace your dentures. It’s also the ideal time for you to ask any questions or have any concerns about treatment addressed.

Your dental implant dentist will examine your remaining teeth and gums and take some photographs, which we’ll use to assess whether Smile in a Day treatment is the best option for you.
Once both you and your dentist have agreed on a treatment plan, we’ll arrange a date for your smile restoration treatment.

On the day of the treatment, you’ll be provided local anaesthetic and sedation to ensure you feel comfortable, relaxed and pain-free. Your remaining natural teeth will be extracted and your Smile in a Day implants will be placed by your dentist. You’ll have plenty of time to rest, ensuring you feel comfortable and confident in your treatment journey.
Your new teeth will remain fixed in your mouth while your bone integrates with the dental implants. After about three months, you will have your permanent teeth placed at a non-surgical appointment. If looked after carefully, they can last a lifetime.

At TDC Implant Centres, we’re committed to providing exceptional aftercare to ensure your comfort, peace of mind, and the best possible results. As such, we’ll provide advice on maintaining an optimal oral health routine as well as answering any questions you might have about your treatment.

Frequently asked questions

TDC Smile in a Day is a long-lasting dental solution that replaces loose, rotten and missing teeth or dentures with dental implants and a full set of fixed teeth – in one day.

It is a fixed-tooth treatment that restores your ability to bite, chew and enjoy all types of food as if you had natural teeth, gives you back a beautiful smile and restores your confidence.

With just a single surgical appointment, it is a less invasive and much quicker treatment than traditional dental implant methods.

Whilst the majority of our patients require at least one full jaw restoration, this dental implant procedure is suitable for replacing single, multiple or full sets of teeth.

It may even be suitable for patients with extreme bone-loss – bone grafting can be avoided in the majority of cases.

Dental implants can be used to replace an individual tooth or a full set of teeth on the top and/or the bottom of your mouth. They look and perform like natural teeth and once you’ve had them fitted there’s no need to treat them any differently.

A dental implant ‘tooth’ is made up of three components: a titanium screw that is inserted into and fuses with the jawbone; a post that attaches to the screw; and a crown that fits over the post to provide a natural-looking replacement for the missing tooth.

The screw of the dental implant is made from titanium because your bone readily forms a strong and long-lasting bond around it. There are various materials available to replace the tooth. At TDC we use a beautiful-looking, hard-wearing but resilient material that is reinforced by a computer-designed and robotically manufactured solid titanium bar that helps achieve better long-term results.

With Smile in a Day we generally use four implants to support all the teeth in the same way that a chair or a table has four legs – it gives perfect balance. This is why it is sometimes known as the All-on-4 dental implant procedure.

We’re proud to offer Smile in a Day dental implants at a transparent price with no hidden costs, and with 0% patient finance available to spread the cost of treatment.

Everyone deserves to feel confident about their smile. But the cost of treatment can sometimes get in the way of improving the appearance and health of your teeth. That’s why we’re introducing Novuna Personal Finance who arrange patient finance as a helpful way of spreading the cost of your treatment.

How does patient finance work?

Finance is available for treatments that cost between £250 and £50,000.

You could spread the cost of your treatment by choosing a payment term (how long you need to repay for) that suits you.

You can apply for 0% APR finance, also called interest-free finance, for treatments that cost between £250 and £50,000 if you choose to pay back the total amount borrowed over 12, 18, 24 or 36 months, (subject to varying minimum and maximum values).

If you choose a payment term of 48 or 60 months, finance is available at 7.9% APR representative.

Finance applicants must be aged 18 or over, a UK resident, have a UK bank account and be in permanent employment. All loans are subject to eligibility, status, affordability and a credit check. T&Cs apply. Finance is available on private dental treatments only.

How much will I pay each month?

Your monthly repayment amount will depend entirely on the term you choose. Whether you want to borrow the minimum credit amount of £250, or the maximum of £50,000 – there are options available. Here are representative examples to show you how it all works:

Representative example – interest-free – 0% APR finance

With this option, you spread the cost of your treatment over a period of time and, because there’s no interest, you don’t pay back any more than the cost of the treatment.

  • 0% APR 36 months
  • Treatment cost: £16,495
  • Deposit £0
  • Interest rate 0% p.a. fixed
  • 0% APR representative
  • Loan amount: £16,495
  • Term: 36 months
  • Monthly repayments: 36 x £458.19
  • Total cost of credit: £0
  • Total amount payable: £16,495

Representative example – interest-bearing – 7.9% APR representative finance

With interest-bearing options for longer payment terms, you still spread the cost of your treatment with monthly repayments, whilst paying interest.

  • 7.9% APR 60 Months
  • Treatment cost: £16,495
  • Deposit £3,299 (20%)
  • Interest rate 7.9% p.a. fixed
  • 7.9% APR representative
  • Loan amount: £13,196
  • Term: 60 months
  • Monthly repayment: 60 x £265.25
  • Total cost of credit: £2,719.01
  • Total amount payable: £15,915.01 (excluding deposit)

How do I apply for patient finance?

After you agree your treatment plan with your clinician, you’ll have the option to apply for patient finance through Novuna Personal Finance. If you’re interested, a member of the reception team will ask for your email address and send you a link to a simple application form to complete. Once you find out if you’re eligible for patient finance, you can use it to help pay for your treatment.

If you would like to know more about the payment plans we offer, please call 020 3553 6415 to speak with one of our Patient Advisors.

Alternatively, your Patient Co-ordinator will be happy to answer any questions you have when you attend your initial free consultation*.

Terms and conditions

Smile in a Day is perfect for most people who have missing or loose teeth. Candidates for same-day dental implants range from people who’ve lost a single tooth, several teeth or even all of their teeth and there are very few cases in which dental implants are not a viable option.

What if I’ve been told I can’t have dental implants?

Even if you’ve been told you don’t have enough bone to have dental implants, you may still be a candidate for Smile in a Day. We routinely treat patients who, along with their dentist, have given up all hope. Our success is down to our levels of experience and expertise with the Smile in a Day procedure.

Can you guarantee that the treatment will be successful?

In the unlikely event of a dental implant becoming loose, our surgeons can remove it and place a new one in a slightly different position to achieve better integration with your jawbone. We guarantee that your bone will grow onto your implants. We check this after three months and, if an implant does not bond with your bone, we will replace the implant free of charge or refund the implant replacement fee.

Am I too old to have dental implants?

When having dental implants, your general health is more of a factor than your age. If you’re healthy enough to have a tooth extracted, you’ll probably be healthy enough to have a dental implant. The oldest patient we’ve worked with was 94.

Traditional dental implants can take many months of fittings and uncomfortable denture wearing until your permanent teeth are fitted. They often also require bone grafts. But with Smile in a Day dental implants, which use a scientifically proven technique, TDC has given hundreds of patients a beautiful smile in just a single day.

The science behind the smiles – how does Smile in a Day work?

As with most dental implants, we use titanium rods securely fitted into your jaw that act as a tooth root to support your new teeth. However, that’s where the similarity ends. With our innovative approach the rods are fitted at a precise angle to get the longest titanium ‘root’ possible without the need for the bone grafts that traditional dental implants often require. Scientific studies have shown that the long-term results are as good as, if not better, than traditional dental implants.

How long does the Smile in a Day procedure take?

Because there’s no need to do bone grafts, what used to take many months can often be reduced to six hours or less. Now you can be given a natural smile and also eat and speak with confidence in just one day. What’s more, we routinely – and successfully – treat patients who have been told that they are not suitable for implants.

With the titanium rods fitted permanently, the new teeth we give you on the day will look wonderful and be fixed securely in place. Although neither you nor anyone else will notice, these are actually still temporary teeth. Temporary teeth are designed to speed up healing as your gums will settle down after surgery and this gives us the opportunity to ensure the best possible fit for your final permanent teeth. All you will need to do is come back ten weeks after your treatment for an impression and fittings. Three weeks after that we’ll check the fit of your new teeth and ten days later we’ll attach your permanent new teeth.

We want you to feel relaxed, comfortable and pain-free throughout your Smile in a Day procedure. Pain is relative and your tolerance to it will be different to another patient’s, but we can assure you that we have rarely had a patient tell us that their dental implant treatment was painful. A certain level of discomfort, such as you would get when you’ve had a tooth extracted, is, however, inevitable. We find that taking over-the-counter painkillers, such as ibuprofen or paracetamol, for a few days after treatment provides adequate relief. None of our patients have ever found it necessary to use prescription-only painkillers.

Specialist sedation service

Most of our patients opt for our specialist sedation service. You won’t be asleep but you will feel relaxed and lose track of time so the procedure will feel as if it is over in minutes. This technique is extremely safe and does not have the risks and side-effects associated with a general anaesthetic. As your safety is our primary concern, you must have someone with you to accompany you home if you opt for sedation.

Time to get to know each other

‘Many patients are understandably a little apprehensive about what to expect from their first consultation,’ says Advanced Aesthetic Dentist Dr Anthony Zybutz, ‘but I can assure you it’s definitely not like a visit to the dentist. In fact, we’ll spend most of it chatting on my sofa as it’s really important for me to understand why you’ve come to see us and what problems you’ve been having with your teeth or dentures. That information lets me best work out how we can help. It’s also a great time for you to ask me any questions and, more importantly, meet the whole team at TDC Implant Centres who’ll be looking after you should you decide to go ahead with having Smile in a Day treatment.

Thorough examination

‘After that I’ll examine your teeth and gums and take some photographs, which will be useful in helping your surgeon plan your treatment. During this examination I’ll also ask you more specific questions about things such as the colour, shape and size you’d like your new teeth to be.

3D CT scans

‘The next step is to take some computerised 3D CT scans to measure the amount and location of bone that you have in your jaw. These will allow your surgeon to accurately plan your dental implant treatment. Unlike hospital CT scanners, where you have to lie in a tunnel, ours can be used while you’re seated upright in the dental chair, so it’s very similar to having dental X-rays taken.

Getting the go-ahead

‘Soon you’ll have the results of your scans and know for sure if you’re suitable for our Smile in a Day procedure. In exceptionally urgent cases we can get the go-ahead and book your Smile in a Day transformation for the very next day.’

Are you on the General Dental Council’s specialist list?

Any dentist can legally place an implant. A specialist on the General Dental Council’s (GDC) specialist list has to meet high standards of training and performance and will have undertaken years of additional, recognised training to hone their surgical skills.

TDC Implant Centre’s Lead Surgeon, Dr Michael Zybutz, is a registered Specialist Periodontist with the GDC and is a Diplomate of The American Board of Periodontology. He is the only specialist dentist in the UK accredited by the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry and has performed hundreds of dental implant procedures in the UK for over 25 years.

What is your training in dental implants?

You should always check to make sure your dentist has the proper training, experience and credentials. Experience really does matter. As alarming as it may seem, many dentists take one- or two-day courses, or mini-residencies on dental implant placement. Few of these courses require the attendee to demonstrate surgical proficiency or obtain a licence.

Dr Michael Zybutz undertook an extensive three-year full-time specialist dental implant training course at the University of Washington School of Dentistry in Seattle where he was awarded a Masters degree in Dentistry and a Certificate in Periodontology.

How long have you been placing dental implants?

Any dentist with a dental degree can legally place an implant, even though surgical placement is not taught routinely in most pre-doctoral dental school programmes. Specialists with surgical training have undergone years of additional training to hone their surgical skills.

Having placed dental implants since 1994, Dr Michael Zybutz has over 20 years’ experience in this field. He often encounters challenging situations that require the kind of expertise and skill that only come with years of professional practise. There is big a difference between someone who places 15 to 20 implants a year and someone, such as Dr Michael Zybutz, who places hundreds a year.

What safeguards are in place to protect against infection?

Many non-specialty clinics perform surgery using the same set-up as for conventional restorative dentistry and do not use surgical-level infection-control procedures. At TDC, all patients are fully draped during Smile in a Day surgery and our team is thoroughly trained in optimal infection-control procedures.

Do you have the latest technology?

State-of-the-art technologies offer faster and more effective diagnosis and treatment. Ask your dentist whether they have access to the following specialist equipment TDC can offer:

3D CT scan software

These allow us to view 3D computer images of your jawbone in order to plan and perform successful dental implant treatment. A specialist radiologist will also provide you with a written pathology report of your 3D CT scan, which is included in the price.

3D printing

In more challenging cases this allows us to perform the surgery on an exact copy of your jawbone in order to eliminate any unforeseen problems.

How do you handle complications?

All surgical procedures have possible complications but thorough training and preparation substantially reduce this risk.

Here at TDC we’re very experienced at placing dental implants – in fact many other dentists refer their challenging or failing implant cases to us, and we often help patients to correct dental problems they’ve experienced after getting implants elsewhere. See how we helped a patient who had been abroad for low-cost dental implants with disastrous results on Channel 5’s Botched Up Bodies.

Do you offer an initial exam prior to diagnosis and treatment and what does it involve?

Always make sure your initial exam includes the following:

  • An oral cancer screening
  • An examination of the health of your gums
  • A complete bite evaluation, including patterns of looseness and tooth wear and overall bite function
  • An assessment of whether there is an adequate amount of gum tissue in the area of the proposed implant
  • A smile evaluation to plan the future position of your new teeth
  • A 3D CT scan and written pathology report

Proper implant preparation involves taking models of your teeth for planning purposes and the creation of surgical templates that ensure proper implant placement. TDC’s initial exam includes all of the above as standard.

What do your patients say about you and do you have independent reviews?

Positive feedback from previous patients is proof of how good a dentist is, which is why TDC subscribes to TrustPilot and Feefo, independent online platforms that will allow you to see genuine and unedited reviews of our Smile in a Day treatment. We can also put you in touch with patients who’ll be happy to talk to you about their experience of having the procedure with us.

With traditional implant methods, treatment can take many months as multiple surgical visits and weeks of healing time are needed at each step of the treatment – extractions, bone grafting if needed, implant surgery, placement of the permanent crowns / bridge.

Removable dentures often have to be worn, especially during the healing phase, whilst the jawbone integrates with the implants (about three months).

With TDC Smile in a Day, any necessary extractions, the implant surgery and the fitting of the first set of fixed teeth are done at the same appointment, reducing the number of surgical procedures and saving months of treatment time.

The new fixed teeth remain in place, night and day, until they are exchanged for your final, long-lasting set of teeth at a non-surgical appointment – so there is no need to wear a removable denture.

Whilst the majority of our patients require at least one full upper or jaw restoration, the Smile in a Day procedure is also suitable for replacing single or multiple teeth.

As everyone is individual, it is important that you find a dentist that you trust to deliver the standard of clinical and patient care, and the results you are looking for.  With so many providers, it can be very confusing so here are a few questions you can ask to help you make the right decision for you.

  • Your dental implants and a set of fixed teeth are placed in a single day
  • Your oral health, smile and confidence will be restored
  • With fixed teeth and long-lasting results, it’s the closest solution to natural teeth
  • No more pain or embarrassment from dentures, loose or missing teeth
  • You can to eat normally again, even chewy, crunchy foods
  • The majority of cases can be treated, even people with extreme gum disease and bone loss
  • Bone grafts are rarely needed
  • The procedure is virtually pain-free, with minimal recovery time.

It’s important to understand that your new teeth need to be properly cared for to maximise their lifespan, just as you would expect to care for natural teeth.

Here are the key tips for keep your new teeth in the best possible condition.

Maintain a really good-at home dental hygiene routine

Making sure you follow an effective oral health care routine at home is the biggest factor in keeping them looking good and maximising their lifespan.

This includes brushing your teeth twice a day, and flossing.  At TDC, we will provide you with all the information and instruction you need.

Visit your implant dentist for regular check-ups

Once you have your permanent set of teeth and your treatment is complete, it is important to attend regular dental implant check-ups and hygiene appointments.

At TDC, we recommend cleaning appointments every 3 to 4 months for most patients, and dental check-ups every 12 to 18 months so we can check all areas of your mouth and around the implants.

It means we can monitor and maintain the health of your teeth and gums, just as we would with natural teeth.

We can advise you personally and identify any small issues before they become a serious problem. We also always complete a mouth cancer screening for total peace of mind.

Stop smoking!

Whilst smoking doesn’t stop you from having dental implants placed, research has shown that the rate of implant failure is significantly higher for those who smoke than those who don’t.

Nicotine constricts your blood vessels, depriving the tissue in your mouth of oxygen and nutrients. It also reduces saliva flow. All of these slow down the healing process. Smoking also lowers your immunity and ability to fight infection.

So, if you are a smoker and are thinking about having dental implants – or have had implants placed – giving up smoking is good for both your general health and helping to make sure your implants last.

Eating with your first set of fixed teeth

These are the new teeth that you get on the same day that your dental implants are placed.

Unlike false teeth that you often wear with traditional implant methods, they stay secured in place by the implants, 24 hours a day, for about 12 weeks whilst your bone integrates or heals with your implants.

Whilst you could easily bite into an apple on the actual day of dental implant surgery, we advise you to take things slowly when you are wearing your temporary set – you will be getting used to the feeling of having new teeth, and may feel nervous about chewing and biting and could easily bite your tongue or lips.

So, we recommend that you build up gradually and eat only foods that you can cut with a fork.

Eating with your final, permanent fixed teeth

Your final permanent teeth are placed at a non-surgical appointment about 3 months after surgery.

These new teeth are also crafted from a high-quality composite material that is re-inforced with a titanium bar to combine optimum strength, durability and shock absorbency.

Now you can eat any food you want – just as you would with natural teeth. You can bite and chew normally, and without worry. You can bite into crisp apples, crunchy baguettes and mouthwatering steaks!

But do remember they are just like natural teeth, so they also undergo wear and tear, and can chip.  If this happens, your new teeth can easily be repaired.
